Ojutole:Can you give a brief insight into your personality?
Hon. Deji Awobotu:I’m Hon. Deji Awobotu, I was born in to the Awobotu family, and my parents were from Ilusi waterside, Ogun State. I attended Canal Primary School, Orile-Iganmu, Lagos, for my elementary school, I also attended Imoye High School, Mile 2. I later gained admission to Ilaro Polytechnic, where I studied accounting also did my ICAN programme there. I’m an holder of FCA certificate, 2002. I’m a fellow of Institute of Charted Accountant in Nigeria.
I possess other qualifications from institutions in USA and Europe. I’m happily married with beautiful kids.
Ojutole:As a professional, how did you get involved in politics?
Hon. Deji Awobotu: My race into politics started in 2008, when my people want me to serve them as the executive chairman of Coker Aguda LCDA, but the leader of our party persuaded me to step aside for the person who became the chairman then. So, when politics of 2015 began, I told myself that this is my time to contribute my quota to the development of my area, I decided to vie for the post of Lagos State House of Assembly under our party APC and to the glory of God I got the party’s mandate but we lost to PDP candidate with very small margin. Now, i’m contesting for the same position and i want to enjoin all my party members to repeat what they did in 2015.
Ojutole:What was the motive behind your aspiration?
Hon. Deji Awobotu: Surulere is where I was born and brought up and I discovered that our people are not enjoying social amenities like good roads, pipe borne water, basic education, among other social ammenities. The inability of our leaders to provide all these motivated me to come into politics; the zeal to serve my people made me to go into politics. And my knowledge as an accountant will be useful for me in the house to lure the basic amenities to my constituency when I eventually become a lawmaker.
Ojutole:Before your aspiration, how well have you identified yourself with your constituents?
Hon. Deji Awobotu: I have done reasonably well in that regards, I have helped many to pay school fees, house rents, I even employed some in my personal company. I belief I will do more as a legislator, I can only get better with better opportunities, and that will be better for us all.
Ojutole:What are your programmes for the people of your constituency?
Hon. Deji Awobotu: As we all know that a legislator’s major function is to make law and checkmate the excesses of the executive. They don’t have budget like the executive, but we can use our power to influence the executive to do basic things like social amenities as well as employment opportunities. Beside I am going to empower my people by providing jobs for them and bring succor to them.
Ojutole:What is your message to your party members
Hon. Deji Awobotu:I appreciate them for the love and support so far, I will enjoin them to cast their vote for me at the primary for the progress, development and betterment of our lives and constituency. Thanks and God bless you all.
